Membership Tiers Or Fee Structure

The NSF IUCRC Digital Twin Research, Innovation & Collaboration Hub (DT-RICH) offers multiple membership levels designed to support organizations of all sizes while ensuring strong industry engagement, collaborative research, and strategic guidance through the Industry Advisory Board (IAB). 

All members gain access to digital twin research activities, prototypes, datasets, student talent, and cross-institutional expertise from George Mason University, Virginia Tech, and Harvard University. 

Membership Levels 

1. Full Member 

Annual Fee: Recommended: $50,000 per year 
Voting Rights: 1 full vote on the Industry Advisory Board (IAB) 
Ideal For: 
Large companies, federal/state agencies, major infrastructure operators, hospitals/health systems, or industry leaders who want direct influence on the research roadmap. 

Benefits: 

  • Priority in defining research themes and project selection 
  • Full participation in semiannual IAB meetings 
  • Access to all research outputs (software, datasets, reports, prototypes) 
  • Opportunity to propose focused projects in alignment with NSF rules 
  • Access to faculty, students, and multi-institution expertise 
  • Branding on DT-RICH materials and events 

2. Associate Member 

Annual Fee: Recommended: $25,000 per year 
Voting Rights: ½ vote on the Industry Advisory Board 
Ideal For: 
Small-sized companies, consulting firms, small agencies, or organizations seeking substantial engagement at a moderate cost. 

Benefits: 

  • Participation in collaborative research 
  • Access to research results and student talent 
  • Attendance at IAB meetings 
  • Ability to contribute to discussions and direction-setting 
  • Lower voting influence compared to Full Members 

3. Affiliate Member 

Annual Fee: $5000 per year 
Voting Rights: Non-voting
Ideal For: 
Startups, nonprofits, local governments, and small companies exploring Digital Twin technologies and consider joining as a full or associate member. 

Benefits: 

  • Access to published research outputs and reports 
  • Attendance at annual meetings 
  • Networking with researchers and industry peers 
  • Ideal “entry tier” for organizations new to IUCRCs 

Membership Fee Allocation 

In accordance with NSF IUCRC guidelines: 

  • At least 90% of membership fees must directly support research projects 
  • No more than 10% may be used for administration 
  • Fees are non-refundable once the funding cycle begins 

    Membership Term 

    • Standard term: Annual (12 months) 
    • Renewal recommended each fiscal year 
    • Organizations may join at any time; mid-year joiners may prorate participation
